Why coal does not only kill the climate

Sarajevo, 17.04.2014.

Association for Culture and Art CRVENA, Dolina 5, Sarajevo.

Coal is not only the worst climate killer. Coal kills already at the beginning of the supply chain. Coal mining causes huge social and environmental disasters all over the globe. Whole mountains are blown away in the USA, peasants get expelled in Colombia, rainforest is destroyed for coal mines in Indonesia, millions of people lack drinking water in South Africa because of coal mining…

Paul Corbit Brown comes from West Virginia in the US where Mountaintop Removal Mining is still practiced by coal mining companies. Paul will explain what this brutal mining method does to the people and how it destroys one of the most beautiful landscapes in the USA.

Sebastian Rötters lives in Berlin and will explain where the global coal mining hotspots are, who benefits from it and why coal from Colombia is burned in Croatian and Slovenian power plants. He´ll also inform about existing anti coal networks in Europe and why a success of Germany´s energy transition would have such a big impact even outside of the country.

Presentation and discussion (in English) will be held on Thursday, 17th April 2014. at17:30, in the office of Association for Culture and Art CRVENA, Dolina 5, Sarajevo.
